We get emails from all over the world from Lokoa lovers who tell us how happy they are we have a web store, but we are proud to have a family of amazing retail stockists across Australia and abroad as well. We sat down with Mandy, owner of The Freedom State (one of our local favourites) to have a chat about her showroom, go to style, and where has her wander-lusting.
Can you tell us a little about your space at The Freedom State?
The Freedom State Showroom, opened a little over a year ago tucked away in The Old Burleigh Theatre Arcade. If you’re not from the Gold Coast, you can find the arcade in the beachside suburb of Burleigh Heads. It’s a local treasure with lots of character; we love calling the arcade home, it fits us to a T!
We’re lucky because Burleigh’s beautiful natural surroundings draws locals in on a daily basis and it’s such an amazing destination for great food and retail on the Gold Coast; we’re proud to be a part of the local atmosphere.
Can you tell us about the kind of fashion labels you showcase in store?
We stock a number of labels from overseas such as Free People, Stone Cold Fox, For Love and Lemons, and most recently Jac Vanek. But we really love our local designers; we have watched Lokoa grow from this super cool leather range at the local markets to a much sought after leather label with a huge following. We love your unique designs and the abundance of colour that brightens up our shop, and website with each new delivery!
What is a typical customer of The Freedom State like?
We have a broad range of customers that visit The Freedom State Showroom, from the young school girls in the local area to super hip mums, though we have to say that we all especially love helping festival goers style their outfits – it’s so much fun!
Which look/s are you loving this season, and what’s your all-time go-to outfit?
Ness runs the showroom, and you NEVER see her without one of the hats we have in store by either Brixton or Fallen Broken Street. I’m more of a relaxed, jeans and tank girl on the weekends, but me LOVES a maxi dress and western boots for work time! And we are always with our Lokoa leather wallets!
At Lokoa, we want to inspire women everywhere to embrace the beauty, love and adventure in their lives and style every day. What does it mean for you to embrace your inner boheme?
That’s something very close to The Freedom State and what we are about; I honestly think embracing your inner boheme is about having the freedom to wear what you want, how you want. Be creative with what you wear and adopt a no-rules attitude to finding different ways to experiment with your look but with a very relaxed vibe. It’s about finding that unique item and using it to express how you feel on the day creatively.
If you could spend a week adventuring anywhere in the world all expenses paid, leaving tomorrow, where would you go, who would you take, and what would you do there?
Strangely enough, America is calling. It’s coming up in conversations daily for me and I think the Universe is telling me to go go go! I will take my two girls with me, and have a girls’ trip of adventure and exploration!
You can find The Freedom State at Shop 4, 64 Goodwin Terrace, Burleigh Heads, Qld, 4220 and online. While you’re at it, don’t forget to check them out on Instagram and Facebook.
